Dec. 5 - 9, 2022

Hello, Grade 1 families!

Learning Intention: I can listen to a variety of fictional and informational texts that are read aloud. I can respond to texts that have been read aloud. I can understand words and phrases from texts that have been read aloud.

Every day we read stories and books aloud. We sit together and predict what we think the story or book will be about based on the images on the front cover and back cover. We read the title and adjust our prediction. Often these predictions come from our prior knowledge. We begin to read and make new predictions as we go through the story. Sometimes we only read half the book and draw what will happen next. We discuss how it is good to make mistakes and reframe our thinking. Predicting is a great way to begin reading time. Next time you rad with your child, have them predict what the book will be about before you begin or have them try to predict what will happen next in the book.

Thank you to all of the volunteers who have sent in items, cut/glued for me and are coming in this week! December is really busy in Grade 1 and we couldn't do it without your support!
