Apr. 3 - 7, 2023

Hello, Grade 1 Families,

Learning Intention: I can identify between living and non-living things. I can identify common requirements for animals to maintain life. I can recognize ways animals adapt to extreme conditions.

Students have been learning about animals; what they need to survive and how they adapt to where they live. We learned about deer and polar bears. In one experiment, we tested to see why polar bears have blubber. Ask your child how we did this experiment and what they learned. Some vocabulary we have focused on: are adaptations, non-living, and living (What makes them a living object? Do they have to have a brain? Do they have to be able to move?). As spring begins in Alberta, what animals do you see now that you did not see in winter? Where did they go? We are learning about migration and hibernation. What happens to fish when the ice freezes? Where do all of the insects go? As you can see, we have a lot of questions! We are curious!

The Easter Bunny made a surprise visit to our classroom on Thursday! We searched and found eggs which had math problems inside of them. Students brought these pages home and would love to share their learning with you!

Hoppy Easter!
